Multifamily attached structures include duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and small to medium size condominiums of three stories or less. Manual Zr also covers large multifamily, multi-floor buildings with dwellings that have their own comfort system, exhaust system, and outdoor air system. Manual Zr details the requirements for designing zoned comfort systems for residential living space. Single-family detached structures that have one or more HVAC systems., Multifamily attached structures (duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses; condominiums, etc.) that have separate comfort systems for each dwelling unit. Large multifamily, multi-floor buildings where each dwelling unit has its own residential comfort system equipment; its own exhaust air system, or systems; and as required, its own outdoor air system for indoor air quality and/or makeup air. Zoning can be provided by zone dampers in a duct system; by ductless multi-split equipment; by two, or more, pieces of ductless split equipment; by two or more central air systems; by two or more PTAC or PTHP units; by two or more AHAM units (air conditioner or heat pump), by zone valves in a hot water heating system (baseboard, or radiant panel), or any combination thereof.
